Good Morning America, How are you??

I always liked that song and well, this isn’t New Orleans by any means, but its Home and it’s exactly where I am meant to be and for some reason that line of the song whether it was intended too or not makes me feel good.    It’s another chilly but nice and bright sunshiney kind of day here at the House Up The Hill.   Had a good breakfast and enjoyed reading my Brother In Law’s book to my Mother.

Being my Mother’s care-giver has opened my eyes and heart in so many ways.   I can’t even begin to share the many lessons that I have learned  from being here with her.   I think one of the most important one is that People are rarely what they seem.  For example, my mother is a tiny little thing weighing in just over 100 pounds and standing less than 5 foot tall.  But boy howdy, she may look aged and fragile but this woman has the strength of someone that is twice her size and 10 feet tall.   Oh, she worries about the little things on a daily basis but nothing ever really rattles her.  She has that Doris Day, whatever will be will be attitude but by no means is she careless or uncaring.

This morning, out of the clear blue she says “I suppose you don’t like it”.   I giggle to myself because she thinks about things and then talks about them without filling me in on the whole thought process   So I casually ask..”What is it that I am not liking?”  She wiggles into her seat for a conversation and says “Does it bother you that I tell people that you are my care giver?”  I look at her wondering where this is coming from and say “No, Mom.  It doesn’t bother me….I love being here with you and like I said before…I am here as long as you need me…no matter what”.   She still has that thoughtful look on her face and says “But you are my daughter.  Caregiver makes it sound like you are my servant.”  I giggled.   “Well….you are the Queen of the Castle”.    She giggled and said “Well, then I guess we are ok”. I smiled and said, “Yes, We are just fine”.

Here are a few photos from around the castle this morning.

I’m off to do some baking so if you are in the neighborhood come on by for some tea and cookies

Walkie Talkie

It was a quiet peaceful day here in the house on the hill.   Woke up to beautiful blue sunshiney skies this morning.    We usually start our day with a little chatter about the weather in the living room.  My dear Miss Molly the head meteorologist (aka Mom) here in the house likes to have her weather updates.

After the BEAUTIFUL sunset that we had last night we were figuring that this morning would be pretty nice and sunny

And ol Miss Molly the meterologist was right it twas a beautiful morn.

I think the area seagulls were having a early morning breakfast convention down by the feedstore too.

Like I said the day was nice and peaceful and quiet.  Just before supper my friend Terri called and wanted to walk.  So off we went,  it was gorgeous out.  Not long into the walk she said…”You should have brought your camera”.  I grinned and said….”I did”.   So off we went and I snapped photos along the way.

and here is a little guy that followed us for a bit on our walk.   Ok so he ain’t little.  I think he looked like a horse and ….hee hee…kind of sounded like one too.

The walk was followed by dinner, a trip to Dairy Queen (I know!!) and then an evening of movies with the Queen of the Castle.

I will leave you with today’s question… Can someone pinch me???  Cuz I can’t believe I am living in such a beautiful place.

Welcome

Welcome to the House Up The Hill Blog.   I moved into this house with my family when I was about 3 years old.   Lived here until the time I went off to see the world.   I’ve come back home to care for my dear sweet Mother who has just a very little vision left in one eye.  She is 87 years old and one tough and amazing woman.    She fills my life with laughter and tears.  I call her so many things…..Lucy because she is hilarious like Lucille Ball, Miss Daisy because she is taken wherever she needs to go,  Belly because…well..you just had to be there when she was signing her name Betty to her christmas cards and it was just easier for her to write Belly and then I would cross the T’s.   She’s Doris, as in Doris Day because she has the Que Sara Sara….whatever will be will be kind of attitude….. the list goes on and is ever changing as you will see as I post stories from our life here at the House Up the Hill.
